Alex Utley, one of my stylists at the salon and colour expert explains a little more about coloured hair, why it’s important to look after it and how to do so in between salon visits.

Over to you Alex!

I love to colour hair! The effects that can be achieved are simply amazing and there is no better feeling, for me and our other stylists, to see the wonderful tones and textures we create for our clients.

Trends and techniques

Colour trends change by the season, yet there are several colour palettes that remain timeless and incredibly effective.

Soft shades of blonde and brown look set to be popular this autumn/winter and can be used to great effective on a variety of hair styles and lengths. Following of from this the popular balayage technique -a skilful blending of highlights and lowlights – which this season will see these trending colours used to give a sun-kissed glamourous look on longer hair lengths.

Brunette and chocolatey-y brown tones will also add shine, vibrancy and a certain sophistication to those embracing this in winter 2024.

Expert advice

Our stylists are all colour experts and advise clients on how to create the look they are wishing to achieve. Whether it’s the colour of the season or our client choosing what suits them best, our team use a range of professional products and the latest techniques to achieve the exact colour, or tonal shades required.

For new clients, patch tests are required, and a detailed consultation ensures we determine a detailed brief to achieve the look each client desires.

Our team are also adept at troubleshooting, rectifying home, other salon, or over-coloured challenges to protect hair and restore hair health and vibrancy.

Which leads me on nicely about how to take good care of coloured hair.

Taking good care

Coloured hair, quite simply, needs a little bit more TLC to maintain condition and the vibrancy of the colour.

The first thing to consider is to select the right hair care products. Using product specifically designed for coloured hair can protect the longevity of colour and keep your hair healthy. The same goes for your conditioner to give long lasting hydration. Use one that protects colour and select quality deep conditioning masks to shine and lustre to coloured hair.

It’s also wise to avoid excessive heat as this can cause colour to fade and leave hair dry. We know this is not always possible though so use heated styling products on the lowest setting possible and use a heat protection spray or cream on every single occasion.

Whether you are wanting to embrace the latest trends, make a statement or simply enhance what nature gave you all the stylists at Rebecca Dickenson Hair Body and Soul can use colouring techniques to achieve the perfect finish.

We can’t wait to see you in the salon and give you the colour wow factor!

Love Alex
