We all know the benefits of eating a healthy and balanced diet, but have you ever stopped to think about how your diet affects your hair?

With over 120,000 hairs on the average head that’s a whole lot of hair that needs taking care of, and the way that that it is nourished is just like your skin – it really can be affected by what you eat and drink. So, it’s important to have a good supply of food that deliver key nutrients such as protein, which helps keep hair strong and healthy, and iron for hair growth and rejuvenation.

Great foods for healthy hair include chicken, egg, dairy, fish, beans, nuts and leafy greens such as spinach and kale, berries and seeds, in fact anything that you would eat normally to take good care of yourself.

To reap the benefits of your hair friendly diet it’s also worth cutting down on packaged and processed foods because, yes, you’ve guessed, it they don’t bring anything to the party. No nutrients, no nothing. They don’t help with cell regeneration and therefore don’t help to keep your scalp and hair healthy.

And, last but not least, don’t forget what you drink also affects your hair. Drinking plenty of water helps to moisturise your hair from the inside helping with shine, manageability and combating dryness, especially in the wintertime when we are subject to harsh weather conditions and central heating, not to mention all that festive season styling

Try also to cut down on caffeine and alcohol, both have a drying effect just as they do on your skin.
So for healthy hair, treat it just as you would your body – enjoy a balanced diet packed full of nutrient-rich food and your locks will thank you for it.
